Order of Precedence Law

Section 1
1. Citation. This Law may be cited as the Order of Precedence Law.
Section 2
2. Interpretation. In this Law, unless the context otherwise requires- "State Executive Bodies" include the Judicial Service Commission, the Civil Service Commission and the Electoral Commission.
Section 3
3. Schedule. It is hereby declared that the Order of Precedence in Delta State shall be as set out in the Schedule of this Law.
Section 4
4. Mode of address. The incumbent of each of the offices listed as items (1) to (4) and (6) to (9) in the Schedule shall be referred to and addressed officially in the mode set out therein.
Section 5
5. Acts of discourtesy. For the avoidance of doubt it shall be a serious discourtesy- (a) not to refer to and address the incumbents in items (1) to (4) and (6) to (9) in the Schedule in the said mode; or (b) to disregard this Order of Precedence at any official ceremony or intercourse.
Section 6
6. Amendments subject to confirmation. The items in the Schedule of this Law may by order, published in the Gazette, be amended by the Governor and such amendment shall be subject to confirmation by a resolution of the Delta State House of Assembly. ORDER OF PRECEDENCE LAW (1) His Excellency the Governor. (2) His Excellency the Deputy Governor. (3) The Honourable Speaker of the Assembly. (4) The Honourable Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice of the Federal Court of Appeal, President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Judges of the High Court and of the Customary Court Judges in order of seniority. (5) Traditional Rulers. (6) Honourable Members of the House of Assembly. (7) Commissioners of the State Executive Council. (8) Chairmen and Members of State Executive Bodies. (9) Chairmen of Local Government Councils.
