Section 1
1. Citation.
This Law may be cited as the Law Enforcement Law.
Section 2
2. Interpretation.
In this Law -
"Board" means the Internal Revenue Board;
"enactment" means an Act, Law, Decree or Edict and any order, regulation, rule of court or
proclamation made under the authority of an Act, Law, decree or Edict.
Section 3
3. Powers of certain officers to enforce provisions of certain enactments.
(1) (a) Any person who is duly authorised in writing by the Board1 while acting under its
lawful orders; or

(b) Any officer of a local government council who is duly authorised for the purpose by a
resolution of that council while under lawful orders of that council or shall have all the
powers and privileges which could be exercised or would be possessed by a police officer,
whether in or out of uniform, or by any other person authorised by law for the purpose of
enforcing the provision of enactment specified in the First Schedule to this Law in relation
to the Board, or, in the Second Schedule in relation to a local government council in
determining and arresting any person who has, or is reasonably suspected of having,
committed an offence against any such enactment.

(2) Any officer in whom any powers or privileges are vested under and by virtue of
subsection (1) of this section shall cease to have those powers and privileges upon the
passing of a resolution by the council.
(3) Every resolution under subsection (1) or subsection (2) of this section shall be put in
writing and published in the Gazette.
(4) Nothing in subsection (1) of this section shall be construed to confer any right or
impose any duty in relation to any matter within the exclusive legislative competence of
the Federal Legislature.
