ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE (AMENDMENT) LAW, 2024
Section 1
1. Short Title and Commencement. This Law may be cited as the Administration of Criminal Justice (Amendment) Law, 2024, and shall come into force on the date it is assented to by the Governor.
Section 2
2. Interpretation. In this Law, unless the context otherwise requires: "Amendment Law" means the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice (Amendment) Law, 2024; "Principal Law" means the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022.
Section 3
3. Amendment of Section 22(1) of the Principal Law. Section 22(1) of the Principal Law is amended by deleting "12 months from the date of the Governor?s assent" and substituting "24 months from the commencement of the Amendment Law."
Section 4
4. Transitional Provisions. Notwithstanding any provision of the Principal Law, for the purpose of this Amendment Law: (a) Any criminal proceeding that is commenced within the original 12-month transition period but before the commencement of this Amendment Law shall continue to proceed in accordance with the provisions of the Principal Law as if this Law had not been enacted; and (b) The extension of the transition period to 24 months as provided in this Law applies to any criminal proceeding that is commenced on or after the commencement date of this Amendment Law.
